…AURELIA…
This wonderful sculpture was named after a school of jellies--Moon Jellyfish
--that inhabit shallow coastal waters--inlets, bays, and estuaries.
Constructed entirely of recylced materials:
Base—a discarded cabinet door repainted then adorned with strewn walkway shells
Trunk—old palm tree trunk that was dried for several years and waiting to be used
Jellies—recycled water bottles with watercolor and acrylic paints for color then fishing line
and dental floss (not recycled) for the tentacles.
Juried into the ArtCenter Manatee show 2013; and juried into the Art League of Anna Maria Island 2014 show.
Just as Aurelia was created with recycled materials, it was dismantled and recycled.
AMI - The Magical Seahorse of the Island (Gold Gesso; feathers; sea grape leaves).
AMI is all this. She swims the Gulf in gold and feathers and spreads her magic using her sea grape leaf dorsal to protect sea turtles because she knows sea grape vegetation blocks artificial light and keeps sea turtle hatchlings from becoming disoriented. (2018 Florida Private Collection)
